Our X-Ray Machine SchedulingFor routine cases (senior screens, hip dysplasia radiographs etc.) we schedule our patients during surgery time which is Tuesday through Friday mornings. Your pet will be dropped off between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and will be picked up later in the afternoon. This allows us time to take and develop the radiographs, repeat them if necessary, and then evaluate them. In an emergency, radiographs will be taken as soon as it is decided that they are required. Sedatives and AnaestheticsSometimes a pet will need to be sedated or anaesthetized for a radiograph to be taken. This is common when complete muscle relaxation is needed (as for hip dysplasia radiographs) or when an animal is scared or painful. Cats are often very much out of their element when at the veterinary hospital, and may need to be sedated because of this. If it is thought that they might be necessary, sedatives and anaesthetics will be discussed with you by your veterinarian prior to you leaving your pet with us. If a sedative or anaesthetic might be required, or is already known to be necessary, you will be asked to fast your pet from 8:00 p.m. the previous evening. Water does not need to be with-held. FastingFasting is usually not required prior to a radiograph unless a sedative or anaesthetic will be used. However, some organs in the abdomen, like the bladder, are difficult to see when your pet has been recently fed. If a fast is necessary you will be informed when your pet's radiograph is scheduled.
